FEAST OF HORSE RACING IN ABBEYFEALE!

Raymond | Category: Local News Sport | 0 Comments

“A horse! A horse! My Kingdom for a horse!” (William Shakespeare)
There will be plenty of equine talent on view next Sunday 27th June as the annual Abbeyfeale Horse and Pony Races take place in Relihan’s Inch, Kilcara – surely one of the most splendid and scenic courses in the country.
The racing starts at 1.30 pm, and most of the top runners in Munster are entered for what should be a very competitive and enjoyable afternoon of racing thrills and spills.
All of the leading bookmakers including Paddy Power, Ladbrokes, Lal Browne, Spike Murphy, etc. will be in attendance, but patrons are asked to go easy on them. There is a lot of loose talk about “good things“ and “racing certainties” going around at the moment and we would hate to see any layer being put out of business! (Wouldn’t we?)
And for those not interested in racing, there will be plenty of other activities and amusements in what is always a real family day out.
There will be a raffle with €1,500 in prize money, and also draws for valuable hampers and free bets.
A helicopter pad has been constructed amid rumours that Sheik Mohammed himself might drop by to pick up a few bargain fillies.
The champagne is already on ice and the hospitality tents are stocked with food and beverages of every description.
The course is situated about a mile outside the town on the Duagh Road. The views are spectacular, the course looks in pristine condition and there is plenty of parking space.
The Abbeyfeale Horse and Pony Race Meeting has gone from strength to strength over the past few years, and the committee are to be congratulated on their hard work and dedication.
Proceeds from the event are being donated to local charities.
Hope to see you all there on Sunday! And if anyone takes any interesting photos during the afternoon, send them on to us and we will put them on the web site.

FISH AND CHIP DAY!

Raymond | Category: Local News Sport | 0 Comments

Tomorrow is National Fish and Chip Day in Ireland. The story goes that back in the 1880’s a ship heading for America stopped in Cobh and a young Italian called Giuseppe Cervi stepped ashore and kept walking until he reached Dublin. He worked in the city as a labourer, earning enough to buy a turf-burning [...]
