Let me explain my current predicament.
A week ago I met a lovely girl in an Irish bar here in Brisbane Australia. I spend that evening talking to this girl. She was with 3 other girls at the time and they had just arrived in Brisbane. Unfortunately, she had to leave abruptly. She said to me to wait for her but she didn\’t come back to the bar. I have been completely awestruck and mesmerised ever since.
Fortunately for me, we shared a lot about one another that night. There was a map of Ireland next to us in the bar and she pointed to me that she is from Abbeyfeale. I made a note of this and even joked to her about coming to visit her in Abbeyfeale.
I have spent the last week trying to find her. I know this email might sound stalkish but I come with all transparency and honesty. I really would love to contact sinead once more. Or have her contact me. I have a feeling she might be looking for me too.
Her name is Sinead . I do not know her last name though. 24 years of age and she is in marketing. She will be heading to New Zealand at the end of this month and then back to Ireland. Thats all I have about her.
I write to you as the last resort. Perhaps you might help me seeing you are the community correspondent and Abbeyfeale from what she told me is small.
I hope you do not disregard this email. Help me find Sinead.
Best regards
Yash Javi

5. February 2010 | 18:15 hI will be traveling to Ireland in august 2010. I am looking for anyone that I might be related to. My grandparents were both born in Ireland and from all indications they were from Abbeyfeale. My grandfather’s name was Dennis O,Connor and I have a birth year for him of 1877. He had one sister named Nora and possibly a brother, Michael. He immigrated to America (St. Louis, MO) around the turn of the century. He then sent for his fiancee, Mary Leahy, also of Abbeyfeale (born around 1884), a few years later and they were married in St. Louis. It is possible that Mary Leahy’s mother’s maiden name was Fitzgerald. Can anyone help me?

25. January 2010 | 20:32 hLawrence O’Connor (his father was Timothy) and his wife Bridget nee Collins (her father was Timothy Fealey (or similar spelling?
Grandparents maried at St Josephs church in Limerick when she was 18 and his age was noted as “full”. They lived in Abbeyfeale Hill / surrounding area. One of their daughters was Hannah May O’Connor born 1st May 1937. Hannah could have been known as Joan or Joanna.
Does anyone have any of the O’Connor or Collins clan from Abbeyfeale in their family tree. All comments greatly received.

20. January 2010 | 05:31 hGood Morning Abbey feale,
I am looking to find family that I have in Abbeyfeale.
I met a number of cousins many years ago in Connecticut.
My grandfather was Thomas J Collins, married to
Elizabeth Collins. My dad shared a letter sent from
Abbeyfeale by Mary Ita Roche in the 80′s. She lived
on Tullig South. Mary ita spoke of John Collins and
Jerry Collins. She had 3 brothers, Sean,Maurice and Billy.
She had 2 sons and 2 daughters and 12 grand children.
My wife and I are planning a trip in June and would to
be able to locate some of my relatives.
Thank you!
Sincerely,

Dan was always friendly and welcoming when visiting from Canada. He was a great father and uncle to John Paul and Tommy O’Keeffe too. May Dan Rest in Peace. He was called home way to soon!
I was in Abbeyfeale from Dec 27th to the 1st of January visiting my Grandma Nora O’Keeffe in Listowel Hospital. She celebrated her 94th birthday and remains strong. I wish the Fitzgibbons, O’Keefee’s and Lanes of Abbeyfeale all the best!

7. January 2010 | 20:05 hRaymond, I was reading your article about ‘the Hill’ and it make me smile when your last paragraph said ‘leave the hill alone’. I will do as you request but would ask you to answer one question for me. My grandparents (Lawrence & Bridget O’Connor) lived on Abbeyfeale Hill and I can find no information on any dwellings there. They were farmers and my mother’s birth cert (1937) states born ‘Abbeyfeale Hill’.
My questions is do you have any idea why Abbeyfeale appears on all websites but not Abbeyfeale Hill – were there farms / houses on the Hill?
Many thanks, Mary O’Connor.

I remember when I was 3/4 having my foot a little squashed by a car reversing onto the pavement. (c.1954) The mortified driver wanted to bring me home to Springmount. I, being well trained not to talk to strangers, and certainly not to take lifts from them, wasn’t cooperative! What I was doing, at this meagre age, abroad without apparent parental supervision on the streets of Abbeyfeale, I can’t understand.

6. September 2009 | 21:55 hI’m looking for any news regarding my father’s family the O’Brien’s. His name is Patrick Joseph O’Brien born March 1945 left Abbeyfeale to work in Birmingham England when he was about 14. Oldest of 15, parents: Margaret O’Brien died around 1982 and John Patrick O’Brien died around 2001. My father lived Railway Road initially and then Clash Roa. His grandparents were I think Patrick and Helen O’Brien who had a son, his uncle Timothy, who was younger than my dad. Anyone know anything of this family? I live in England and have never met this side of my family except for an aunt in England. Any news would be gratefully accepted.

His wife was Margaret McCarthy and her mother was Margaret Connors. I have looked at Church records when I was in Abbeyfeale but now would like to see if any of these people still have kin in town. Michael was a tailor who lived out on the road forking to the right past the square heading towards Kerry. We believe he may have come to Abbeyfeale from Kerry.

13. December 2008 | 22:04 hTHE HISTORY OF THE GAELIC ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION IN CANADA
by JOHN O’FLYNN
http://www.trafford.com/07-2929
The history of Gaelic games in Canada, before the founding of the Gaelic Athletic Association in Ireland in 1884 and in the years since, proves a determination by Irish immigrants who have arrived in numerous provinces of Canada. Through their dedication the flag of Irish sports has flown strong, and will continue to fly in the years to come.
Author biographical note
John O’Flynn’s father, Thomas O’Flynn (Kilmeedy, County Limerick), first came to Toronto in 1953, and his late mother, Elizabeth (nee O’Keeffe) (Duagh, County Kerry), arrived together as a married couple in 1962 to British Columbia.
John’s parents introduced him to Ireland’s national games of Gaelic Football and Hurling with the members of the Vancouver Irish Sporting and Social Club. He had the opportunity to represent the club and play Gaelic Football in two North American County Board Championships: 1984 Boston and 1985 Chicago. He attended the founding meeting in Toronto of the Canadian County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1987 and currently serves as Secretary.

9. April 2008 | 00:15 hHarnett’s of Abbeyfeale
My grandmother’s family were Harnetts from Abbeyfeale. Her uncle was Monsg. John Harnett from there, he was a monsignor in the archdiocese of Los Angeles around the turn of last century and through to the late ’20′s or so. In any event, I have found him on the Ellis Island website on ship manifests traveling to and from Ireland with his nephew Fr. Patrick Harnett, also of Abbeyfeale.
I was there this past summer and stopped off at a Harnett petrol station on the main road leading from Abbeyfeale towards Dublin. Anyway, the lady there knew of the monsignor but didn’t know much more as it was her husband’s family and he wasn’t there. I was going to send them our family tree, but haven’t gotten around to do so.
The Harnetts that I am related to came from Abbeyfeale and settled in Los Angeles. They are still there in Los Angeles.

I missed the game against Gloucester, but am fit and raring to go against Saracens. I have a ticket organized but no accomodation. Can your Birmingham cousins help? There are ten of us travelling over in a mini-bus, but tell them not to go to too much trouble. We will bring our own cans and we all have sleeping bags.

29. March 2008 | 13:33 hHello everyone, I’d like to set up a charity shop in Abbeyfeale. Which charity is still open for suggestions though I prefer a nature (crann?) or third world organisation (bothar,..?) I still need everything: accomodation, shop furniture and more volunteers. Would you like to become a volunteer? do you know where to rent a cheap shop? do you have free/cheap shop furniture etc etc? then please contact me. Don’t offer to donate any goods as yet. anneke.vrieling@lycos.com

26. February 2008 | 23:29 hWould anybody either remember, or have access to a radio schedule, for any time during the year 1938?
Also, does any boy remember when electricity came to Abbeyfeale, whether you had to pay to be connected to the grid and how many outlets you got in a typical house?
Strange questions perhaps, but really necessary for my book research.
Many thanks to all

13. December 2007 | 14:31 hHello. This may seem strange but I was wondering does anyone know anything about the Faith Healer Janice Craig. I seen her on TV sometime ago, and I was wondering is there a meeting you can attend or can you go to see here privately. This would mean a lot to me if I could get some info. Many thanks.

25. October 2007 | 20:54 hI am descended from the O’connors from Abbeyfeale. My grandparents were Lawrence and Bridget and they were farmers at Abbeyfeale (Hill). Does anyone remember them or know of this family. I understand that they could have had a large number of daughters. At least that is what has been passed down to me verbally. Any information on my family would be greatly appreciated. I would very much like to talk on-line to anyone who knows them. many thanks, Mary.

I wonder if any of ye out there know of a Timmmy Collins, from Abbeyfeale, he would have moved back to Limerick in about 1986, before that he lived around the Holloway Road and Archway London N19. I have some very important information to tell him. If anyone knows of him can u please log onto this site. Thanks Josephine, it is good information by the way. Josephine

28. September 2007 | 14:18 hHello all. My name is Sharon. My mum, Elizabeth Moriarty (also known as Betty and Liz) was born in Drumtasna, Abbeyfeale in July 1948 and left about 17/18 years old to come to London. My mum died very suddenly last year and so I was just keen to get in contact with anyone who knew her when she was young. When someone dies suddenly, you really wish that you had more time to find out about them when they were young. Many thanks. Sharon.

11. September 2007 | 10:54 hRaymond,
I recall a few lines about the ‘misbehaviour’ of a landlord near abbeyfeale in the late 1800s.
Then O’Grady came with fire and ball to burn the dwellings down;
His hireling crew did subdue the country and the town.
Tom Clancy once mentioned Abbeyfeale to me. One night around the mid -70s, I was on patrol on the Broadway Local # 1 train and the Clancey Brothers got on at 34th Street . I approached then and they asked me from part of Limeerick I came. When I said “Abbeyfeale”, Tom Clancey said: “On the way to Abbeyfeale, I met a man with mail”. I didn’t know at the time that this is a line from John B. Keane’s play Sieve.

30. August 2007 | 14:25 hThe two County Boards are getting around 10,000 tickets each. Does this mean that there will be 20,000 supporters and 64,000 neutral fans in Croke Park on Sunday? I was always a bit slow at the sums going to school but surely this does not add up!

30. August 2007 | 14:20 hI notice that bids on 2 Hogan Stand tickets on e-bay have reached €1062. The face value of these is around €140. Is it any wonder that hurling is in decline when real fans have to contend with this?
MOSSIE
29. August 2007 | 23:22 hWhere have all the tickets gone to? Watch out for the fat cats (not the Kilkenny fans) in the corporate boxes on Sunday while the REAL fans will have to watch on TV. You will see the same faces at the rugby and soccer, and even the cricket, but only if they are winning!

28. August 2007 | 12:29 hHi Guys!

17. July 2007 | 15:21 hCouldnt agree more Paudie. IT was not on the curriculum when I went to St Itas College and its difficult to teach an old dog new tricks or in my case a very old dog.
