  • Where is Clash?January 27, 2012

    Where is Clash?
The grandfather of the late ”Denny Ann” from Kilconlea was Denis Connors who married Mary Collins, daughter of William. Civil on-line marriage record for 1871 lists groom’s address as kilconlea but her address is listed as Clash. Was this a subdiviosion of another townland?

Hello to the Fitzgibbons of Cahir Lane and to the Lanes of Abbeyfeale along with the Halpins of Duagh. I recently heard from Fr. William Lane in Washington State, brother of Jim (the Doc) Lane, by e-mail.

My father (Thomas O’Flynn -Kilmeedy) celebrates his 78th birthday in 2012. All the best to family and friends of my late mother ( Betty O’Keeffe) of Abbeyfeale.

  • Browne from AbbeyfealeDecember 15, 2011

Alfred Browne was my Great great grandfather. According to the Maltese birth certificate of my Great Grandfather Paul Brown, Alfred was born in Abbeyfeale, County Kerry (not Limerick) and his father’s name was Edmond Browne.

Paul married Carmen Harding who has the daughter of William Harding of Warwick and Joanne Tanti. William and Alfred were their sons and my father Arthur was William’s son. Strangely I only discovered the Irish connection a few years ago when I got Paul’[s Birth Certificate from the Maltese government. My dad died without ever knowing about it.

I would certainly be interested in any further info you might have –

  • Beware of email scams!December 13, 2011

I believe the person who posted the following article has had her email account hijacked so I would advise you not to contact her at this address until she has resolved the problem. After my initial email from her addresed to me I received a ”Dear Friend, I was robbed and need a thousand euros to get home” email. I’m sure she did not send it but since I was a victim before I urge you not to reply to her email address or fall for any similar scams. One thing these all have in common is that the email does not address you (e.g. Dear John/Mary). be safe!

  • Seeking Lenihan’sJuly 23, 2011

I would dearly love to hear from anyone who could assist me in piecing together the Irish connection of my family tree.
The little I know is that Martin M Lenihan of Caherlevoy married an Anne Lane at the Parish Church, Mount Collins in 1909. Martin’s parents were Martin J Lenihan and Mary Morrissey and Annie’s parents were John Lane (or Leane) and Ellen Connell.
Witnesses given on Martin & Annie’s marriage certificate were David Lenihan of Caherlevoy, Mount Collins and Hannah Lane of Knockulcare, Mount Collins.

From the 1911 Census Returns for Caherlevoy
Martin M Lenihan Head 34 Farmer Limerick
Annie Lenihan Wife 32 Farmers wife Limerick
Mary Lenihan Daughter 3 month Limerick
Martin J Lenihan Head 70 Farmer Limerick
Mary Lenihan Wife 73 Farmers wife Limerick
    Martin Casey Cousin 12 Kerry

From my enquiries, it appears that Martin & Anne had several children in addition to their first child Mary b.1911 and Ann b.1922.
Anne (Lane) Lenihan died in 1922 soon after childbirth due to complications.
Martin died in 1956 and is buried with his wife, their daughter Mary and Marys husband John Lenihan, in I believe, the church graveyard at Mountcollins.
It would be lovely to hear from any of their descendants.
    Many thanks.

  • O’Keefe’s of MeenscovaneFebruary 10, 2011

Hi! My name is Maura and I live in the USA. I\’m planning a trip to Ireland with my sister in June and have heard from my nephew (also in USA) that my mom\’s home in Meenscovane is no longer there. Perhaps you would be so kind as to point me in the right direction to get in touch with folks who are familiar with my family in Meenscovane. My Mom was Nancy (Anne) O\’keeffe, daughter to Jack and sister of Timothy and Mary. Her nephew Con O\’keeffe (married to Mary) still owned and operated the farm there when I visited as a young person in the 1960s. Her niece Moll (mother of Martin) lived in another farm close by (walking distance) but I cannot remember her married name.
Any help you can pass along would be so wonderful. After I visit with my sister, Pat, I want to visit again and bring my children and grandchildren to show them the wonderful place that is their history.
I did visit the Facebook site you mentioned in the community news but was not successful in reaching anyone – names change, etc.
Hoping to hear from you, and again – many thanks for the Newsletter you have on line and any help you can pass along.

  • HomecomingJanuary 20, 2011

    Hi Everyone!

My name is Lauren Fealey and I’m from New York, but I am currently spending a semester studying in Spain. My grandfather and I always talked about visiting Abbeyfeale and the places where his mother grew up, but unfortunately he passed away before we could do so together. Now that I am in Europe, I am trying to complete that dream and visit the town where my family is from.

I was hoping to get some travel information and to figure out the best way to get to Abbeyfeale. I will be in Dublin on the 17th March and hope to travel on the 19th. I know there is a bus to Limerick but am not sure how to go from there. Any information would be useful and much appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!
    Lauren Fealey

  • Across the miles with Fr. Bill LaneDecember 29, 2010

My daughter, Kristi, and myself visited Fr. Bill Lane, brother of Abbeyfeale’s Jim Lane, in Federal Way, Washington on December 19th at his retirement home. He was in great form and we both admired a Christmas Card with a statue of Fr. Casey in the town square. It was great to speak of our family connections that cover Canada, USA and Ireland. At the leaving he extended a blessing for a safe drive home and for his family and friends.

  • Searching for SineadJuly 24, 2010

Let me explain my current predicament.

A week ago I met a lovely girl in an Irish bar here in Brisbane Australia. I spend that evening talking to this girl. She was with 3 other girls at the time and they had just arrived in Brisbane. Unfortunately, she had to leave abruptly. She said to me to wait for her but she didn’t come back to the bar. I have been completely awestruck and mesmerised ever since.

Fortunately for me, we shared a lot about one another that night. There was a map of Ireland next to us in the bar and she pointed to me that she is from Abbeyfeale. I made a note of this and even joked to her about coming to visit her in Abbeyfeale.

I have spent the last week trying to find her. I know this email might sound stalkish but I come with all transparency and honesty. I really would love to contact sinead once more. Or have her contact me. I have a feeling she might be looking for me too.

Her name is Sinead . I do not know her last name though. 24 years of age and she is in marketing. She will be heading to New Zealand at the end of this month and then back to Ireland. Thats all I have about her.

I write to you as the last resort. Perhaps you might help me seeing you are the community correspondent and Abbeyfeale from what she told me is small.

I hope you do not disregard this email. Help me find Sinead.

    Best regards

    Hi there,
Can you help me? I’m trying to get a phone number for Dutch Abbeyfeale resident, Ab Mooi. I’m a journalist hoping to talk to him about his time working in the Rippen piano factory in Shannon. Many thanks.

  • J.D.B. HarnettApril 27, 2010

    Hello,

I am trying to trace some of my grandmother’s family. She was Mary Harnett of Abbyfeale. Her father was Daniel B. Harnett and owned J.D.B. Harnett which is still there now. Her sister and brother were Julia and Bartholomew. They all went to the states. Mother was Julia Collins and I understand her father remaried to a woman named Ahearn and had more children. I am stuck at who they were and who my Daniel B. Harnett parents and siblings were. Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

    Take Care,
    Kelly

    Seeking Jim Furlong (from 1950s)
I’m seeking info on family friend Jim Furlong. Last known details were from 1950s when he worked either as a pharmacist or pharmaceutical rep in Limerick, Tipperary etc. Was a friend of Ryan publicans (my cousins) in Tipperary town. Lost contact with him and his family so any later news would be appreciated. Thanks.
