WORK BEGINS ON NEW SCHOOL!

Raymond | Category: Uncategorized | 0 Comments

Construction work on the new Abbeyfeale Community College began last week.
The new college will see an amalgamation of the three existing secondary schools; St Ita’s College, St Joseph’s Secondary School and the Vocational School. It will cater for upwards of 850 pupils in an ultra modern, state of the art campus facility.
It will include 25 general classrooms, 2 lecture rooms, 4 science labs, a sports hall, a multimedia lab, music and drama room, IT labs, PE hall, playing pitch, library, tuck shop, dining area and numerous other teaching and ancillary facilities.
It is expected that work will be completed before the start of the 2011/2012 academic year.
The new school is located in a green field site at the rear of the convent.
Some people have expressed reservations at the building of such a large school in the centre of town, particularly with the many traffic problems being experienced along Main Street during rush hour. However county council officials have promised that all such problems will be addressed.
Changing times indeed in Abbeyfeale.

ABBEYFEALE ANGLERS
Secretary Dee Dennison has released the following report: “The fresh last week finally saw a few salmon brought to the table. The secretary finally got one he could keep, followed by the high scorer – Patsy Willis – who landed three. Jimmy Dollery and a companion each had two fish – all caught in Mattie’s. Paddy Clohessy landed one in Relihan’s and Mike Sheehy landed one in Mattie’s after releasing two others in a burst of unplanned generosity. There are tales of a few trout being landed also – Timmy and Sean are both mentioned in the winner’s enclosure. Water levels have dropped back again to very low, so we will probably have to wait for the next flood for a further bit of action.”
