ST PATRICK’S DAY GREETINGS!

The little Grogeen man was sitting in a bar at Shannon Airport, sipping a glass of stout when he got talking to an American visitor.
“I’m here to meet my brother.” explained the Grogeen man. “He is flying in from America for St Patrick’s Day. He hasn’t been home for forty years.”
“Will you be able to recognize him?” asked the American.
“I’m sure I won’t.” said the Grogeen man, “He has been away for a long time”
.”I wonder if he’ll recognize you?” mused the American.
“Of course he will,” replied the Grogeen man. “Sure, I haven’t been away at all!”.
The American revealed that he was a big farmer from Texas and, anxious to impress the Grogeen man, he said; “Do you know, it takes me a whole day to drive from one side of my ranch to the other.”
“Ah, sure don’t I know, sir” replied the Grogeen man. “We do have tractors like that over here, too!”
Anyway, the eyes of the world will be focused on Abbeyfeale for a short period from 4pm today as the annual St Patrick’s Day Parade gets underway.
The parade will set out from the Convent Yard led by the Rathkeale Brass Band and will travel down Main Street past the reviewing stand in The Square, where the usual clutch of clergy, politicians, dignitaries and assorted alickadoos will be seated under the shadow of Fr Casey.
Crowds are expected to throng the parade route to applaud the participants while trading the usual harmless and good-natured insults.
Local bars have organized music and entertainment for the afternoon and, hopefully, we will have full details and pics of the parade on our website tomorrow, together with the rest of the week’s news.
But for now we are off to celebrate in the appropriate manner, and we wish all our visitors, whether in the flesh or online, a happy St Patrick’s Day!

Saint Patrick was a gentleman
Who, through strategy and stealth,
Drove all the snakes from Ireland
Here’s a drink now to his health!
But not too much black porter
Lest we lose ourselves and then,
Forget the good Saint Patrick
And see all those snakes again!
