HAITI RED CROSS APPEAL

There will be a table quiz and monster raffle at the Winners Circle Bar, Bridge Street on Friday, January 22nd in aid of the Red Cross Haiti Appeal. Linda Sweeney, daughter of Marie and Patsy, Killarney Road works with the Red Cross in the Carribean and is helping to co-ordinate their response to this dreadful ongoing tragedy. Lorcan Curtin, WL102fm presenter will be the questionmaster and your support is earnestly requested. Quiz will start at 10pm following the Munster match on television. An account has been opened in AIB, Abbeyfeale so that all monies collected can be forwarded directly to the Turks and Caicos Red Cross of which Linda is a Director. She will then be able to use these funds to help the children who have been orphaned and displaced by the earthquake. Linda is based on an island just 60 miles from Haiti and plans to travel there in the coming days.
GOLF; Following the AGM of Abbeyfeale Golfing Society held on January 15th at Jim Lane’s bar, New Street the committee elected for the 2010 season is:
Captain:Timmy Kelly, Secretary: Mossie Kelly, Treasurer: Eamon Scannell
Competition Secretary: P.D. Browne. Committee Members: Declan Fitzgerald, John Geoghegan, Ger Foley, Paddy Fitzgerald, Paddy Lane, Gerry Murphy, Patsy Prendiville, John Joe Foley, Teddy Sullivan, Jim Kelly.
Our first outing of the new season is to the Killeen course at Killarney Golf & Fishing Club on Saturday, February 27. .Membership for the year is €30 and can be paid to any of the committee members on or before the first outing. New members to the society are welcome and can contact 086- 2234074 for more information.
Thanks to last year’s Captain Declan Fitzgerald for a great year and to John Haugh outing Competition Secretary for all his work over the past six years.
SOCIAL; The Abbeyfeale Coursing Club social will be held on this Saturday, January 23rd at the GAA Clubhouse. Tickets are available from Jack O’Rourke’s in the Square or any member of the committee .
CONCERT; The last few remaining tickets for the Annual Coming of Spring Celebration with Rebecca Storm in the Church of the Assumption on Friday, January 29 can be booked by ringing 087 9066437
CLASSES; Dancing Classes will commence on Friday, February 5 in the Community Centre, New St. at 9.15pm. Learn to waltz, slow foxtrot, jive, shoe the donkey and much more. Everyone welcome.
KARATE; Training for adult beginners will take place at Sports Complex Abbeyfeale on Tuesdays and Fridays between 7.00 and 8.00 p.m.
RUGBY: Abbeyfeale were beaten 30-8 by Sunday’s Well in the first round of the Munster Junior Cup in Musgrave Park last Sunday. They are away to Castleisland in the league next Sunday. And best of luck to Munster who complete their Heineken Cup qualifying campaign at home to Northampton in Thomond Park on Friday night.
There was no winner this week in the lotto where the jackpot was €1500. The numbers drawn were 3, 2, 7 and 17. The lucky dip winners were Kathleen Broderick (Glenashrone), Seanie Brosnahan (c/o The Cellar Bar), Bevan Scannell (The Hill) and Carmel Godfrey (Kilgarvan)
SOCCER; Abbeyfeale Utd A drew 1-1 with Broadford on Sunday. The B team lost 4-2 to St Ita’s. The Ladies beat Ballingarry 2-0.
