LOCAL ELECTION – NO CHANGE!
| Category: Local News Sport | 0 Comments
The expected backlash against the present government failed to materialize in the Abbeyfeale/Newcastlewest electoral area where all five outgoing councillors retained their seats and were returned en-masse to County Hall.
It was predicted by some party analysts that Fianna Fail might lose one of its two seats to Labour. However, despite a good early showing by Stephen Goulding, both of the Fianna Fail members were eventually returned with increased majorities.
Because of recounts in other areas, counting of votes did not commence for the Newcastlewest/Abbeyfeale area until 5.30 pm on Sunday at the University of Limerick.
Jerome Scanlon (FG) was elected on the first count, and he was subsequently followed by Patrick O’Donovan (FG) and Liam Galvin (FG).
Both Michael Collins (FF) and Francis Foley (FF) were deemed elected on the 5th and final count.
We congratulate our elected councillors and trust that they will look after our best interests at County Hall over the next five years.
P.S. Now that the election is over – please take down the posters!
