MUNSTER BOW OUT!

Munster’s hopes of retaining the Heineken Cup were dashed at Croke Park on Saturday evening when a battling Leinster XV confounded the pundits and deservedly dumped the men in red out of the competition at the semi-final stage.

Before a world-record crowd of over 82,000, Leinster dominated in all sections. They tackled ferociously and never allowed the Munster pack to settle.

The real turning point probably came with fifteen minutes to go. Munster trailed 18-6 but launched a typical late rally. They attacked the Leinster line in waves and it seemed that a try was inevitable.

It was – but it went to Leinster! O’Driscoll intercepted a pass from O’Gara to O’Connell and ran the length of Croke Park before touching down under the posts.

Abbeyfeale’s travelling army of supporters arrived back late on Saturday night, battered and broke. They offered no excuses, but said that the better team won on the day.

Fleadh by the Feale was in full swing, but they declined to join in the various polka sets, preferring instead to quietly drown their sorrows with a few pints of black.

It will take a bit of time to get over this – but Munster will be back!
