MUNSTER TITLE FOR LIMERICK!

Raymond | Category: Local News Sport | 0 Comments

Limerick football was given a great boost on Sunday with the victory of Drom/Broadford over Kilmurry/Ibrickane of Clare in the final of the Munster Clubs Championship.

It seems a long time now since Cork robbed Limerick of a place in the 2008 Munster Final with two killer goals in the last minute of the semi-final. Cork went on to clinch the title with victory over Kerry, leaving Limerick to dream of what might have been.

Drom/Broadford showed on Sunday that anything is possible, and their victory must give great heart to the other senior teams in West Limerick who will now be anxious to emulate their historic achievement and bring a major football trophy to the county.

Roll on 2009 where another Munster Final appearance for Limerick looks a distinct possibility!

Latest betting; Kerry 2/5, Cork 5/2, Limerick 9/1

Meanwhile Munster are still on course advance to the knock-out stages of the Heineken Cup despite losing to Clermont in France on Saturday. The Munster men picked up a valuable bonus point in their 25-19 defeat and face the same opposition in Thomond Park this weekend.

And Padraig Harrington has been named European Golfer of the Year following his two Major successes. This will give great heart to our local hackers, many of whom can be observed carrying out their own major rotovating operations on various fairways throughout the country at present.

Roy Keane’s resignation has also caused considerable comment but rumours of his imminent appointment as player/coach to Abbeyfeale Utd are just wishful thinking. (we think)

And a little boy runs home to his mother and says;

“Mummy, mummy! When I grow up I want to be Roy Keane!”

And she says; “You can’t do both, son”

And following the recent economic turmoil, bets are now being laid on who will be the next leader of Fianna Fail. They go 7/4 Dermot Ahern, 3/1 Michael Martin and 7/2 Brian Lenihan. You can get 20/1 on Willie O’Dea, and 50/1 on Bertie to return.

You can also have 11/10 on Richard Bruton becoming the next Fine Gael leader with Denis Naughton at 4/1 and Jimmy Deenihan at 22/1.

Betting on a White Christmas is 3/1, while Boyzone are 33/1 to have the Christmas No. 1.

All in all, a pretty depressing picture.
