BUSY BANK HOLIDAY
| Category: Local News Sport | 0 Comments
The town was busy over the bank holiday weekend with many people returning home to spend time with family and friends. Among those were Nora and Sheila Geaney from Coventry, and originally from Castleisland, who spent a few days sightseeing in the area. Traffic through the town was heavy all weekend as people availed of the last holiday weekend before Christmas. Some of the shop fronts had decorated for Halloween, but not as many as usual. The recession is beginning to bite. Heavy rain caused some localised flooding but all major roads were passable. Winter time came in on Saturday and, as the old people used to say; “There is a year of a night there now,”
Many locals travelled to Knocknagoshel on Sunday evening to take the Ghost Trail along the Well Road. The trip started as darkness fell, and there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth, as weird and wonderful beings began to appear out of nowhere. Great fun, but definitely not for the faint-hearted!
