SAM FOR LISTOWEL?

Raymond | Category: Local News Sport | 0 Comments

Big talking point this week is the meeting of Cork and Kerry in the All Ireland football final in Croke Park on Sunday. Both teams enjoy considerable support around Abbeyfeale, and flags from both camps are very much in evidence throughout the town.

Interestingly, Limerick played both of these teams in the National League, and they also played Dublin. Of the three, Cork were the most impressive at that time, and will be quietly confident of causing a major upset.

Paddy Power go 2/5 Kerry, with Cork at 5/2. It looks like another Sam for The Kingdom, but sport can be unpredictable. (Just ask France after the Argentina match)

And in the Rugby World Cup, Ireland’s lack-lustre display against lowly Namibia is causing consternation. They looked like a jaded team with many of the top stars failing to perform.

It is still early days and there is a lot of rugby yet to be played. This game may prove an important wake up call for Ireland, and the match against the French now looks pivotal. Paddy Power will lay 1/1 Ireland with a 9 points start against France, and they go 8/11 Ireland, 11/10 Argentina in the closing group game.

And what about the soccer players? (Don’t mention the war) They HAVE to beat the Czechs on Wednesday night to have any chance of qualifying. Powers go 4/6 Czechs and 4/1 Ireland, which just about sums it all up.

A treble on Cork, Republic of Ireland and Ireland (+ 9 pts) is 34/1. Buy a few lotto tickets. You stand a better chance of winning.

And don’t forget that Listowel Races start next Monday and, presumably, Sam, will be the guest of honour – again! (He may yet arrive by way of Macroom and Mallow)
