HEINEKEN CUP FOR ABBEYFEALE!

Raymond & Jay - Site Administration | Category: Local News Sport | 0 Comments

THE Heineken Cup will be on display in The Grove on this Saturday afternoon, 11th November, between 1pm and 3pm.

No! We haven’t won it – at least, not yet. Although to hear some of the talk in Jack O’Rourke’s bar on a Sunday night after a few pints, it is only a matter of time.

We have won more trophies in Jack O’Rourke’s bar than we could ever hope to win on the field of play. And we have played some marvellous matches there and recorded some unbelievable results – all in our heads, that is.

We have picked teams, dropped players, re-instated them, and fabricated elaborate game strategies that would leave even Eddie O’Sullivan scratching his head in admiration – or disbelief. We have won the Munster Junior Cup (three-in-a-row) been promoted to division 1, acquired senior status, won the All Ireland League, and then been demoted back down again, all in the space of one night.

And of course it was here that plans were hatched for the various rugby tours to foreign climes – most notably Wales.

And what transpired on some of these tours would make Watergate seem like a Teddy Bears’ Tea Party.

Unfortunately, due to the Official Secrets Act, the files on these travels cannot be opened for fifty years, by which time most of the miscreants will either be dead or will still be holding down positions of power on the rugby committee and will therefore be immune from any sort of retribution.

However, having acquired access to the records (I know someone on the Council) it makes pretty sensational reading, and I may yet consider it my civic duty, (providing the money is right) to publish and be damned!

Watch this space for further sensational revelations.

Meanwhile, give a call to The Grove on Saturday and get your photograph taken with the Heineken Cup. It may very well be the last we see of it around these parts for some time to come – unless we win the virtual reality version in Jack O’Rourke’s bar.

Now what a night that would make – and what a story to tell the grandchildren!
