BUSY BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND!
| Category: Local News Sport | 0 Comments
Traffic through the town was particularly heavy over the bank holiday weekend with visitors heading for the numerous tourist resorts in Kerry. The fine weather drew crowds outdoors, and the many local amenities such as the town park and the various scenic walks, etc. were well utilized. Race goers from the area travelled to Galway in great numbers for their annual joust with the bookmakers, while Kerry supporters who stopped off on their way home from Croke Park on Saturday evening added much colour and atmosphere to the town. (Wonder if they will be in such good humour after the Cork game?)
Meanwhile, members of the Irish Camping & Caravan Club have spent a very pleasant couple of weeks in the Abbeyfeale area, with over eighty caravans encamped in the local rugby grounds, and people from all parts of Ireland visiting the town for the very first time.
The I.C.C.C. was formed in 1971 and its aim is to promote camping and caravanning throughout Ireland by the provision of suitable sites, and also to foster an interest in healthy outdoor pursuits for all the family. It is affiliated to the International Federation and members are assured of help and assistance in whatever country they choose to travel
The visitors to Abbeyfeale have organized an impressive programme of events and activities over the two weeks of their stay, including sporting events, barbecues, theme nights, organized walks, camping expeditions, karaoke nights, discos, beach parties, quizzes, live music, etc. There is something to suit all tastes and all ages, and it is run with great competence and skill by an obviously very dedicated and very efficient committee.
Many local people have visited the rugby club to join in the various activities during the past couple of weeks and numerous new friendships have been forged. The visitors have been very impressed with the friendly hospitality afforded them by the people of Abbeyfeale and most have promised to return to the area again.
The visitors are wished a safe journey back to their various destinations at the weekend and hopefully they will choose Abbeyfeale as a venue again at some future date.
