VOCATIONAL SCHOOL AWARDS

The Abbeyfeale Vocational School awards ceremony 2004/2005 was held recently in the school. The awards are an annual event in the school calendar and recognize student achievement and excellence in a wide range of areas including academic and practical subjects, sports, extra curricular activity, enterprise and attendance. The Junior and Senior Student of the Year awards were won by Eoin O’Sullivan and Placido Sanson respectively. The presentations were made by the Chairperson of the Board of Management, Michael O’Kelly.

PARADE

A meetimg of the St Patrick’s Day Parade Committee will take place in St Ita’s Hall on Monday next 20th February at 7pm. All are welcome.

 

Council Houses in West Limerick

Cllr. Niall Collins and Cllr. Francis Foley have been informed by Limerick County Council that planning permission is in the process of being obtained for the construction of eight units of accommadation in both Mountcollins and Templeglantine. The Council will construct four two bedroomed and four three bedroomed houses in both Mountcollins and Templeglantine, comprising of sixteen houses in total.

Cllr. Niall Collins stated – "There is a good local demand for these houses in Mountcollins and Templeglantine and I will be calling on Limerick County Council to make a priority the construction of these houses." Cllr. Francis Foley said he was "pleased that these projects were proceeding as he had received many representations regarding the provision of these houses."

 

COLLECTION

The Friends of St Ita’s are holding a Church Gate collection at all Masses on this Saturday and Sunday, 18th and 19th February. Your support is earnestly requested for this very worthy cause.

 

DRAMA

Abbeyfeale Drama Group’s production of Big Maggie continues at the GAA Club on Thursday 16th and Saturday 18th February.

 

BASKETBALL

St Joseph’s Girls U/16 basketball team defeated Mount Temple of Dublin, 51-30 in the All Ireland final. There was a huge turnout to welcome home the victorious team.

 

GRADUATED

Stephen Murphy, son of Noreen and Gerard Murphy, recently graduated from Templemore and will be stationed in Carlow.

 

RETIRED

Frank Dennison retired recently as Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Limerick County Fire & Rescue. To mark the occasion, a special presentation was made to him by Abbeyfeale Fire Brigade.

 

GOLF

The Captain’s Drive-In took place at Abbeyfeale Golf Club recenty as Brendan Brady officially launched his captaincy on the course.

 

SOCCER

Abbeyfeale Utd B defeated St Ita’s 6-3 helped by a hat-trick from David Roche and goals from Danny Sheehy (2) and Michael Casey. Abbeyfeale Utd A drew 0-0 with Rathkeale.
