TEMPLEGLANTINE – 1954
(1)
The hurling men from ?Glantine
Arrayed in Ireland?s green,
Have ever shed more glory
Upon the Gaelic scene.
(2)
Our Captain is Ned Leahy,
Tom Collins shines in goal;
At centrefield is Larry
With Pat Buckley on a roll.
(3)
Young Patsy and Jack Riordan
With Quirke, O?Brien and Dee
Are smashing, stout defenders
Who never bend the knee.
(4)
Jim Furlong and Jim Hartnett
Reveal their skill and dash;
Pat Sheehy and Paddy Carmody
Were maestros of the ash
(5)
Jamie Collins is ne?er forgot
Or McNamara grand;
And Denis Ahearne – a deadly shot,
We ran to shake his hand.
(6)
Mick Quill was saving raspers,
Emmet Leahy in the fray;
The best of all to clear that ball
Is Maurice Dee today.
(7)
We had Dan Carmody and Paddy Daly,
Pat Joe Foran from the Pound;
Jim Dee, a trojan worker,
Larry Curtin safe and sound.
(8)
There?s Jim Woulfe and tall John Leahy,
Con Carmody fast and fair;
When Ardagh were attacking
Mick Carmody was there.
(9)
We remember Timmy Curtin,
The daddy of them all,
Who never more will handle
A hurley or a ball.
(10)
Sound full back Paddy Bresnihan,
Behind from Devon Road,
And Blacksmith Mossie Daly*
The Bridge was his abode.
(11)
We hail the men from ?Glantine
Well trained by Matt Dillane;
We know they?ll soon be champions,
The boys from Inchabawn.

(*Mossie Daly was 6 foot 5 inches in height! He is my first cousin. He now lives in Luton, U.K.)
