ABBEYFEALE WELCOMES FR JOHN!

Fr John O’Shea has taken up his duties as Parish Priest of Abbeyfeale as replacement for Canon James Neville who retired recently. A native of Kildimo, Fr John was ordained in 1971 by the late Bishop Henry Murphy. He spent time as chaplain to the defense forces and at NIHE before being appointed Parish Priest of the Corpus Christi parish in Moyross in 1992. Parishioners have warmly welcomed Fr John to the area and have wished him a long and happy period as Parish Priest of Abbeyfeale.

  I am wondering if anyone who reads this may be able to help me. In the early 1980s i met a soldier from abbeyfeale called joseph he was camping with a group from the curragh army camp in curracloe co wexford it was at a show in hotel singer on the night was red hurley.he was tall with dark hair and we danced and chatted and i arranged to see him there next evening. However unfortunately i could not get there i dont even have his surname all i can remember is the above information i have tried other methods of contacting him but to date i have had no luck. If would really love to make contact with him if anyone can help.

  My grandmother was an O’Keeffe from nearby Meenscovane, or Knocknagoshal. Couldn’t find the place when I was there last month.

  I’m seeking info on family friend Jim Furlong. Last known details were from 1950s when he worked either as a pharmacist or pharmaceutical rep in Limerick, Tipperary etc. Was a friend of Ryan publicans (my cousins) in Tipperary town. Lost contact with him and his family so any later news would be appreciated. Thanks.

  My mother (Hannah) was born in Abbeyfeale. She moved to Stockport, UK. My children ask me about their heritage and I realise how little I know. Her mother was Sarah (nee Gouran) and her grandfather Thade (Timothy) wrote ballads. When I was 6 I visited Abbeyfeale with her and stayed with some of her friends (Mary Jo Enright and Nora… I think). SHe had lovely friends too in Moynsha (Peg). Any info would be welcome… she spoke of her hometown often.. you were all well-loved by her.
